Forest School & Outdoor Learning
Forest School and outdoor learning is an integral part of the Mill View whole school curriculum offer. Every child works in our Forest school or Kitchen garden on a weekly basis where they develop a deep understanding and appreciation of nature. Our well developed Forest School site has been cultivated over a number of years. We have had 2 major phases of tree planting to extend the Forest School area with 800 trees of local provenance. The site is a mixture of 20 different species including self seeded cherry, birch, hornbeam and alder. We have a fire circle, mud hill, pond, shelter, wild flower meadow and snack station. The site is valued, respected and enjoyed by everyone in the school community.
Our vast grounds allow plenty of space for children to learn, play and explore. In addition to our forest school children also work in our kitchen garden and sensory garden. With the support of our passionate and knowledgeable staff, children take full responsibility for the planning, development and ongoing maintenance of these areas and they take great pride in their work.
