The English curriculum at Mill View is rooted in the presentation of high quality texts to children.  Our carefully selected texts reflect the diverse nature and issues of our school, community, country and world.   These texts are the vehicle for the delivery of the reading and writing curriculum, and they are also present within exciting and enticing reading areas and displays within each class as well as in Key Stage libraries.  Whole class stories and news are shared daily and enable teachers to broach current issues in an age appropriate and compassionate way.  

All year groups at Mill View follow The Read to Write approach to English.  Through this approach our children have daily access to high-quality teaching of writing through high-quality literature.  Detailed units of work centre on engaging, vocabulary-rich texts, with a wealth of writing opportunities within and across the curriculum.  Children follow clear sequential episodes of learning based around model texts that also allow the development of vocabulary learning and contextualised spelling, grammar and punctuation.  Handwriting is practiced daily across all year groups to ensue that all of our children have the skill and ability to present their work clearly to their reader.
